The 12 Sol Path Yoga Principles
1. January: PRESENT MOMENT AWARENESS
Principle 1 represents the ability for us to breathe deep and be present with life. Being present allows us to live, feel and enjoy each experience fully - as well as gives us the power to make conscious choices that benefit all. The present moment is a gateway to life, God and all possibilities.
2. February: GRATITUDE
Principle 2 represents the inner contentment and peace that is created when we live in the present moment with appreciation. Gratitude enables us to focus on all that is good, beautiful and supportive. This is not denying that some things can be improved. It is making a conscious choice as to where we place our energy and attention. Seeing life through the eyes of gratitude illuminates us from within. This higher energy state assists in cultivating health, blessings and good fortune for ourselves and others.
3. March: LOVE
Principle 3 represents the understanding that breathing deep and connecting to the present moment with gratitude, also connects us to our hearts. Our heart is our center and the origin of our potential, wisdom, and brilliance. It is the home of peace, joy, forgiveness, purpose, respect, kindness and love. When we build our life on the foundation of love and the calling in our heart, our dreams become reality while serving the world at the same time.
4. April: TRUTH
Principle 4 represents the connection between love and truth. Living from our heart allows us to connect to our own truth and create a life that represents our most authentic self. Our dreams, our inner calling, our personality, our passions, our viewpoint, our family and our history are all part of our truth. Being in touch with our heart deepens our awareness that we are an important part of an even greater truth that includes everyone and everything.
5. May: ABUNDANCE
Principle 5 represents the understanding that our universe is limitless and abundant. Life is responsive to our thoughts, words and actions. When we cultivate an appreciation of life’s infinite beauty and resources, we also cultivate a life of abundance to enjoy and share. With this knowing, the bounty of heaven already exists in our hearts.
6. June: BALANCE
Principle 6 represents the inherent balance within all things. Yin and Yang are opposite energies, yet completely supportive of one another. One could not exist without its compliment. Sun and moon, male and female, dark and light, giving and receiving, beginning and ending and beginning again.... Having an appreciation for co-existing opposites and the support they provide allows us to appreciate the wholeness within our selves, our relationships and our world.
7. July: PURITY
Principle 7 represents the clarity of a pure heart, mind and body. When we make choices that enhance our physical, mental and emotional health we become a vessel for good. Our inner light is free to shine out and help us align with our purpose and passions. When we are clear with our intentions, actions and communication - life remains easier and simpler.
8. August: INNER FIRE
Principle 8 represents the inner fire that ignites our soul’s passion, creativity and inner strength. Our inner flame burns away distractions and cultivates the discipline to remain focused on what’s most important. Whatever we invest time and energy into - will come to fruition. When we are illuminated from the inside, our dreams, our purpose and the courage to pursue them are revealed. The Divine light within is where we will find our true power.
9. September: SELF-UNDERSTANDING
Principle 9 represents compassionate awareness for ourselves. Observing our thoughts, words and actions gives us great insight into our patterns and habits. Recognition gives us the opportunity for compassion and transformation. Once we take responsibility for who we are and what we do - we can decide if we want to make adjustments or enhancements to our way of being. Forgiveness to anyone who wronged us, especially ourselves, allows us to be free of the past so we can grow into our full potential.
10. October: LIBERATION
Principle 10 represents the liberation we experience when we understand that life is eternal and limitless. Liberation lies in the realization that happiness and inner peace are not dependent on external factors or a particular outcome. We are not bound by the past or present circumstances. Living with an open mind and open heart allows us to be open to infinite solutions and possibilities. True freedom lies in being connected to breath, life and God.
11. November: TRUST
Principle 11 represents the understanding that once we have done our part, we must let go and trust in the bigger plan. We are a small part of a greater picture. Our body is like one cell in the body of God. Our mind is like one drop in an ocean of higher consciousness. Our heart is like one beat within an eternal song. Because our life is one piece of a larger picture we must trust in the interconnectedness of all things and all events evolving together toward the greater good for all.
12. December: CELEBRATION
Principle 12 represents the celebration of life, love and dreams. Our thoughts and intentions are very powerful. When we make a choice to celebrate our journey, then every event, situation, relationship and task can be an opportunity to remember the gift of life. To move through life with a spring in our step, a sparkle in our eyes and joy in our hearts is to give and receive the very best life has to offer.
